Akinyemi Oni-Orisan, PharmD, PhD was awarded the 2020 Darrell Abernethy Early Stage Investigator Award by the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics (ASCPT). Akin will receive a $10,000 grant for his proposal, which aims to advance our understanding of cholesterol response to statin therapy for the prevention of ASCVD using techniques in pharmacodynamic modeling, pharmacoepidemiology, and pharmacogenomic analyses with electronic health record data.
Established by the ASCPT in 2018, the award is intended to foster the growth of early career scientists and honor the memory of Darrell Abernethy, MD, PhD.
Akin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy at UCSF. He is interested in identifying determinants of inter-individual response to pharmacological therapies (such as lipid-lowering therapies, antihypertensives, antiplatelets, and antidiabetics) that reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
Rada Savic, PhD, an Associate Professor in the Department of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences at UCSF nominated Akin for the award.
Akin will be formally recognized as a recipient of this award at the ASCPT 2020 Annual Meeting (March 2020) in Houston, TX. The IHG warmly congratulates Akin on this achievement.
