Dr. Boffelli develops methods for comparative genomic and epigenomic analysis to study the function and evolution of mammalian genomes and epigenomes. Dr. Boffelli uses gene expression as the direct phenotypic readout of the functional state of the epigenome and understand the epigenome’s role as a carrier of heritable information. The current focus is on single cell analysis to study the biology of stem cells and for the simultaneous analysis of the genotypes and phenotypes induced by CRISPR/Cas9 editing. A further area of interest is the application of whole genome sequencing to the diagnosis of children with severe genetic disorders.
