Dieter C. Gruenert, PhD
Professor of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery
Dr. Gruenert focuses on assessment of the biochemical, molecular, and metabolic mechanisms underlying phenotypic and pathological features of inherited diseases such as cystic fibrosis (CF), sickle cell anemia (SCA), and BRCA1/2 breast cancer. These studies have generated numerous cell systems to study inherited diseases and cancer progression and to development and assessment of genetic and/or cellular therapies for patient specific organ/tissue regeneration and repair. Recent studies have involved development of induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells as a cell and gene therapy for CF and SCA and for regeneration of tissues of airways, breast, parathyroid, thyroid, and salivary gland.
