Research

The research interests of Institute for Human Genetics (IHG) faculty span a wide and diverse spectrum, encompassing prenatal, pediatric, and adult conditions, as well as key methodological and conceptual areas in human genetics.

On the disease side, investigators work across a broad range of conditions, including cancer, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes; neurological and movement disorders; autism, bipolar disorder, and other neuropsychiatric conditions; craniofacial development; as well as infectious and autoimmune diseases. Faculty also contribute significantly to the emerging field of pharmacogenetics, advancing understanding of how genetic variation influences drug response and treatment outcomes.

In parallel, IHG researchers are leaders in methodological innovation. Their work includes human evolution and population genetics, genetic epidemiology, computational and molecular genomics, functional genomics, reproductive decision-making, and bioethics. Rather than simply following existing trends, IHG investigators are actively developing and applying the technologies and analytical approaches that are reshaping human biology and transforming modern health care.
