The UCSF Center for Translational and Policy Research on Personalized Medicine (TRANSPERS) is seeking a faculty member at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank with expertise in health services research, health economics, or a related field. Qualified applicants may also serve as the Assistant Director or Co-Director of TRANSPERS.

The Center, founded in 2008, is a global leader in developing objective evidence on the translation of personalized/precision medicine and other new technologies into clinical care and health policy. We have recently augmented our team with new faculty and a post-doctoral fellow but we would like to add another faculty member in 2021.

The position focuses on developing and sustaining high-quality research that supports the mission of TRANSPERS. The faculty member will lead his/her own research projects as well as contribute to TRANSPERS focused research by leveraging and building existing expertise and developing new areas of growth. The faculty member will be integrated into the Department of Clinical Pharmacy’s teaching and service activities.

The applicant will be expected to have or obtain grant funding, but there is initial funding available for 1-2 years.  This position also offers the possibility for a joint affiliate appointment in the UCSF Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies as well as other UCSF centers.

We are seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented individual interested in Human Genetics, Bioinformatics, Population Genetics, and/or Statistical Genetics to advance asthma research in high-risk yet understudied populations with mixed ancestry. This individual will work in a diverse and highly collaborative environment to conduct exciting research using multi-omics data, including 19,000+ whole genomes, 3000+ whole transcriptomes and 2000+ methylation profiles with additional data generation underway. All children have detailed measures of clinical, social and environmental measures, which will enable gene-environment interaction analyses.

The successful applicant will perform statistical and bioinformatic analyses for genetic studies related to asthma in populations with mixed ancestry. Responsibilities include data processing and analysis, results interpretation, and oral and written presentation of findings in meetings and peer-reviewed journals to audiences of scientifically diverse backgrounds. The successful candidate will also support teaching/training, publications, grant applications, and presentations. Additional responsibilities may be given, commensurate with demonstrated abilities.

The UCSF Asthma Collaboratory, directed by Dr. Esteban G. Burchard, M.D., M.P.H., specializes in identifying genetic contributions to asthma and asthma-related traits in ethnically diverse human populations. The Asthma Collaboratory is located on the new and vibrant Mission Bay Campus of UCSF with proximity to the new NBA Warriors basketball stadium, train lines, and ferries.

Required Qualifications

• PhD in the area of Bioinformatics, Epidemiology, Genetic Epidemiology, Population Genetics, and/or Statistical Genetics
• Experience in the manipulation and analysis of large-scale next-generation sequencing and omics data
• Familiarity with the latest genomic/genetic databases and software relevant to the study of statistical genetics and multi-omics data
• Demonstrated experience in Unix/Linux and cluster computing environments (especially SGE)
• Fluent in R, Python or other major programming languages
• Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities
• Highly attentive to detail with a penchant for producing timely and accurate work
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Highly motivated and committed to biomedical research

The Hollenbach Lab at UCSF is seeking applicants for multiple NIH funded postdoctoral positions to study the immunogenomics of human disease. Current projects are focused on the impact of variation in the extended Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) in neurological disease as well outcomes in SARS-CoV-2 infection. These projects will involve application of existing as well as development of novel methods to analyze deep sequencing data across this highly variable and gene-dense region, including examination of structural polymorphism, interaction of immune variants and pathway analysis in the context of patient immunoprofiling. All applicants should have a PhD in genetics, bioinformatics, biostatistics or a related field. The ideal candidate will have a strong skillset in statistical genetics and programming and bioinformatics and some background in immunology.
